Differences between Desktop and New Desktop/Web/Mobile clients – configuration limitations?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a configuration where we need a consistent user experience across clients (Desktop, New Desktop, Web, and Mobile), and I’m facing several limitations or inconsistencies that I can’t seem to resolve.

Here are the main points:

1. Refreshing search results list

On the classic Desktop client, I know there is a parameter to control the refresh behavior of result lists.

However, I cannot find any equivalent setting for:

  • New Desktop
  • Web
  • Mobile

Point right Is there any way to configure or control the refresh behavior on these clients?

2. Metadata order inconsistency

The order of metadata displayed is not consistent across clients:

  • It does not always follow the order defined in M-Files Admin
  • It also differs between clients (Desktop vs Web vs Mobile)

Additional note:

  • No metadata card configuration (priority/order) has been applied that would override this behavior

Point right Is there a way to enforce a consistent metadata order across all clients?

3. Hiding “Add property” on Mobile

On the Mobile client, users can see and use the “Add property” option.

In our case, we would like to restrict this to keep the interface simple and controlled.

Point right Is there a way to hide or disable the “Add property” option on Mobile?

Context

We are working in a cloud environment, with limited ability to deploy custom solutions (e.g., VAF), so we are mainly relying on standard configuration.

Goal

The goal is to provide:

  • A consistent UI across all clients
  • A controlled set of metadata visible/editable by end users
  • A simplified experience, especially on mobile

Thanks in advance for your insights Slight smile

  • 1. Refreshing search results list

At the moment, automatic refresh of listings is only available in the Classic Desktop client. The New Desktop and Web clients do not yet have an equivalent configuration.

I've recorded this as a product insight on your behalf, as this is a parity item the product team is actively evaluating and prioritizing based on customer demand. I've also noted that you'd like to see the same capability extended to the Mobile client.

    2. Metadata order inconsistency

This does sound unexpected. All clients should primarily follow the property order defined in the class settings in M‑Files Admin.

To get this properly investigated, I recommend contacting M‑Files Support with details of the vault and how the properties are displayed across the clients, so they can analyze the behavior more closely.

    3. Hiding “Add property” on Mobile

Have you already tried hiding it using a Metadata Card Configuration rule with behavior Metadata Card → Theme → Add Property Link → Is Hidden = Yes

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply.

    1. Refreshing search results list
Many thanks — that clarification is very helpful, and I really appreciate you submitting it as a product insight.

    2. Metadata order inconsistency
Thank you for the recommendation. I will also open a support ticket regarding this specific metadata order issue.

For context, I already have two other tickets open for the same client concerning UI differences between users, for example:

    • some users seeing the X icon to remove metadata while others do not
    • some standard users seeing Name or Title, even though this is not the designated title property for the class

These are separate topics, but I wanted to mention them as they may indicate broader client/UI inconsistencies in this environment.

    3. Hiding “Add property” on Mobile
Yes, that is exactly the approach I tried using Metadata Card Configuration.

    Thanks again for your help.
