[Bug?] "Show only recently selected items" grouping level option not working in M-Files Web

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with the **"Show only recently selected items"** option ("Afficher uniquement les éléments récemment sélectionnés") configured on a grouping level in a view — it does not seem to be honored by the M-Files Web client.

**Context / Setup**

- View: `010_Collaborateurs` (ID 146)
- Grouping levels: `Employé > Classe`
- The option **"Show only recently selected items"** is enabled on the grouping level (checked in the Advanced tab of the grouping level definition)
- Algorithm: Automatic
- "Ignore object permissions to hide folders" is unchecked

**Expected behavior (M-Files Desktop)**

In the legacy Desktop client, the view only shows the folders the current user has recently accessed. A dropdown/popup allows the user to search and select any other folder. This significantly improves performance and usability on views with 400+ virtual folders.

**Observed behavior (M-Files Web)**

In M-Files Web, the view ignores the setting and **lists all 499 folders** regardless. The "recently selected" filtering is not applied.

The dropdown popup (shown when clicking "Select folder...") does appear to list all values correctly — so that part seems to work — but the view itself does not filter to recent items only.

**Screenshots**

*(see attached: grouping level Advanced settings, Web view showing all 499 folders, Desktop client showing correct behavior with recent item + full dropdown)*

**Questions**

1. Is this a known limitation of M-Files Web vs Desktop for this specific option?
2. Is there a workaround to replicate the "recently used folders only" behavior in the Web client?
3. Is this planned to be supported in an upcoming release?

Thanks in advance!

  • This is a known limitation. The option "Show only subfolders that were recently selected by the user" is supported only in the classic M-Files Desktop.

As an alternative, we recommend exploring Workspaces in the Web client. Workspaces, together with the view search functionality, are designed to replace the traditional “select folder” approach in the newer clients (M-Files Web and the new M-Files Desktop). In many cases, Workspaces provide a more efficient navigation experience, as they allow you to organize and access all relevant content in one place.

If you would like assistance with setting up Workspaces or evaluating how they could support your specific use case, please contact your M-Files reseller.
