In the M-Files Online 26.3 release, we are introducing permission handling speed improvements which will have a one-time effect on the first run of the full vault optimization. In the initial phases of the optimizations, the improvements will be activated. During the improvement activation, the vault will be unreachable.
The complexity and size of the vault play a role in the length of the optimization. For the majority of vaults, the vault will be unavailable for only a few minutes. For extremely large vaults with tens of millions of objects, the operation can last for more than an hour. It is important that the operation is not cancelled, as the operation must be completed during a single run in its entirety.
What do I need to do?
Cloud vaults: Nothing. By default, the optimization for the majority of cloud vaults is launched Sundays between 0:00am-2:00am. For the largest vaults, the timing might be adjusted to occur earlier. Vault administrators can adjust the timing if needed.
On-premises: The initial download version for M-Files 26.3 (26.3.15818.7) does not yet contain the optimization task, but is included in all subsequent versions. The optimization task will be performed during the first full optimization after such upgrade. The upgrades and optimization schedules for on-premises deployments are always manual. After upgrading to any version beyond 26.3.15818.7, it is suggested to ensure that the optimization schedule is set to occur at a time least disruptive to business.
What is vault optimization?
Vault optimization is a standard maintenance task that ensures that the vault stays healthy and improves operational performance. By default, vaults are optimized on a weekly cadence during the weekend. System admins can adjust the scheduling to suit the business need.
