M-Files Cloud Moves to Continuous Updates

M-Files Cloud Moves to Continuous Updates

We are transitioning our cloud customers to a continuous update model. This represents an evolution in how we deliver improvements, enhancements, and fixes to the M-Files platform.

Rather than receiving large, scheduled releases at fixed intervals, customers will receive smaller, more frequent updates as improvements become ready.

What Are Continuous Updates?

Continuous updates is a method of releasing software, or parts of the software in smaller, more agile pieces. It is a non-disruptive way to update the software in a more controlled manner. This means that most updates will have no downtime and can be applied when needed. You're most likely already familiar with these types of updates on your mobile apps and business applications.

For you the Continuous Updates mean:

  • Improvements are delivered incrementally instead of bundled into large releases
  • Updates are smaller in scope and lower in risk
  • New functionality becomes available sooner
  • Stability is improved through gradual rollout and monitoring

This change does not impact your data, configurations, or integrations.

What changes and what stays the same?

This change affects all cloud customers who are on the monthly update schedule. The only thing changing is how you receive updates for M-Files Server, M-Files Desktop and M-Files Web.

As a standard, there will still be a monthly maintenance break. This usually occurs on the third Sunday of the month enabling customers to plan for breaks.

There will still be a monthly summary of all the changes that have come during the month. This makes it easier to follow the updates. Any major releases will have their own timeline of communications on top of the monthly summary.

What to expect?

  • No large “upgrade events”
  • Smaller, incremental improvements
  • Advance notice before your organization's servers transition to receiving more frequent updates
  • Continued access to release information and documentation

How are we moving to Continuous Updates?

There are three separate timelines for the M-Files Server, new M-Files Web and new M-Files Desktop.

Cloud Servers

Cloud servers will start with weekly updates. The transition will be done in phases, but all the vaults of any single customer will be upgraded in a single batch. All phases will be completed by September 2026.

Note: Customer's Vault Trusted Persons will receive an advance notice before their servers start receiving Continuous Updates.

New M-Files Web Clients

New M-Files Web clients will start receiving continuous updates in the beginning of April 2026.

New M-Files Desktop Clients

New M-Files Desktop clients will start receiving updates during Q2 2026, and we will announce the date via the M-Files Community's Product News.

FAQ

What are Continuous Updates?

Continuous Updates mean improvements can be delivered incrementally and more frequently, rather than bundled into large releases.

Who are affected?

All customers on M-Files Cloud on the monthly update schedule.

This does not affect on-premises deployments or systems on Long-Term-Support scheduling.

Why is M-Files making this change?

This approach will give us:

  • Faster value delivery: Users see improvements and fixes arriving sooner, without waiting for the next monthly release.
  • Higher quality and stability: Users experience smoother updates, as smaller and more frequent releases reduce risk and catch issues earlier.
  • Quicker issue resolution: Users benefit from faster delivery of critical fixes, minimizing downtime and operational disruption.
  • Earlier feedback loop: Customers can provide feedback sooner, helping guide improvements toward the features and workflows most relevant to user needs.

Will this cause more disruptions/How does this improve stability?

No. Updates are smaller and lower in risk. The goal is to reduce disruption compared to larger upgrade events and deliver more value faster to customers and end users.

How will we know when we are upgraded to Continuous Updates?

For servers, your organization will be notified by email. For Web, the transition will happen at the beginning of Q2/26. For Desktop clients the change will happen sometime during Q2/26.

Our systems require validation before entering production/Does this affect Long-Term Support customers?

Customers operating in regulated industries, or requiring validation before upgrading the production environments, can subscribe to the Long-Term Support (LTS) service. The LTS provides cloud customers more flexibility for their update cadence.

Customers on LTS are not affected by this change and retain full control over their update schedule.
