Windows 11 Compatibility Statement

Windows 11 Compatibility Statement

Windows 11 is now supported in M-Files Desktop versions 22.1.11017.5 and later. Before you upgrade, make sure you’re familiar with Windows 11 specifications and system requirements and that your computer supports Windows 11.

However, due to changes in Windows Explorer, there is a feature that is not yet fully compatible with Windows 11. When M-Files is launched from Windows Explorer in Windows 11, the top menu is no longer available when pressing the ALT key. We are working to bring similar functionality back to M-Files Desktop and expect it to be available in a future release.

There are some current workarounds to get the ALT menu back if needed.

  • Launch M-Files through an M-Files Link, which will display M-Files without the new larger navigation pane of Windows 11. Using this method, the top menu can be made visible using the ALT key.
  • Create an alternate shortcut to launch M-Files using the target path "M:\<vault name>"
  • Enabling the classic ribbon in the registry (Please note that this method will change the behavior of Explorer globally, not just when using M-Files)
    • Open the Windows Registry editor, then browse to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Blocked
    • Add a new STRING type key: {e2bf9676-5f8f-435c-97eb-11607a5bedf7}
    • Restart Exporer.exe or reboot the workstation.
