M-FIles Server Upgrade

Hello,

We have an On-Premise M-FIles Server 23.5.12628.4. We are planning to upgrade the server to latest version 25.3.

I have few questions:

1. Do we need any change in license in order to upgrade?  We have a license from a provideer and have around 80 users in this license.

2. Will users have to immmediately upgrade their desktop version or can they keep on using older versions? We had few users who were automaticallt upgraded to latest version of desktop (25.x) and had trouble which we beileve as Server version is still 23.5.

3. Do we just follow the steps here https://support.m-files.com/supportportal/article-details/url?recordId=Upgrade-Paths-for-Older-Versions-of-M-Files , i.e. go for Simple Upgrade. DO we need to keep somehtinbg else in mind.

4. We use COM API to upload/download files from MFiles, is any change needed there?

Thanks for your help

Regards,

Payal

  • 1. License change should not be required.

    2. While we recommend running the same version of server and client for the best compatibility, the older desktop client should work with newer server. Naturally the latest features may not be available until also the clients have been updated. Client updates are typically straightforward and quick to do.

    3. Yes, those are the high level steps. You may also want to consider updating any vault applications you have at the same time. Compliance Kit is mentioned on the support article but you may have other add-ons installed as well.

Also make sure that your server can receive licenses automatically after the upgrade. More information in support article Automatic License delivery automation for On-premises.

    4. No changes should be required.
