View - groupping levels - select folder. Is it possible to filter select folder metadata (device) by other metadata (factory).

Hi. View - groupping levels - select folder. Is it possible to filter select folder metadata (device) by other metadata (factory). In my case select folder should only show devices in certain factory (factory selected in view tree). Devices are too many to show at once.

  • Hi!

If I understand your case correctly, the answer is no, not as such. You would likely need to have a hierarchy established between the two values. For example, set the Factory as a parent value and the Devices as a child value in Admin:

This would link the two values together, so once you've selected the grouping level folder within the view, it would then ask you to choose a device from the dropdown menu.

I would advice to test this first in a test vault before taking it to production to make sure there are no hiccups.

To be able to give a more elaborate answer however, I'd have to know a bit more details on your environment and how it is currently configured. For that, I would recommend you to contact us through the Support Portal.

  • Hi Milla. Thanks for advice. I made parent / child definition in test environment. Now this view, after choosing the factory, gives the dropdown for devices, but doesn't find devices. It gives empty selection.

  • When you create parent/child relation, the records that are already in child object before relation happened, stays parentless. So, your devices that are already in Child Object does not have any parent factory defined for them.

I suppose you can export those child objects out with their IDs and reimport them in with ID and Parent information. So they will have parent information and they will be able to be filtered

  • Hi CagriE. Thanks for advices. Yes, you are right. I will check this.
