External File Sharing

My company is wanting to share multiple files using a visitor link but the option is grayed out. We have HubShare but we deal with outside parties that will not create an account to access the files.

  • Currently, it is only possible to share a single file via a visitor link, which means you would need to create a separate link for each file. Alternatively, you can consolidate the files into a ZIP archive and share that archive through a single visitor link.

In general Hubshare is the best way to share a large number of files with external parties. However we are also planning to enhance the sharing features in M-Files so there should be more streamlined options in the future.

  • Thanks for your response, I saw your response on another thread from a while ago stating that there were planned enhancements. Do you have a timeline?

  • I’m not aware of any plans or timelines for the specific enhancement you would need in this case (sharing multiple files via a single visitor link).

However, the upcoming Sharing Center will introduce a redesigned approach to sharing content in the new clients, including the creation of visitor links in M-Files Web and the new M-Files Desktop. The initial Sharing Center release is planned for later this year, with functionality being gradually expanded in subsequent phases. I don't yet know if there will be changes to the visitor link behavior as part of this redesign or if they are still limited to sharing a single file at a time.

I recommend discussing this sharing scenario with your M-Files representative so you can figure out the best way forward together.
