'Make Copy': force into template

Good morning,

Our employees are making great use of the 'Make Copy' function for Requests where most metadata is nearly always the same (they just change the Date/Time).

The Request concerned turns into a PDF at the end of the workflow.

So when a Requestor wants to 'Make Copy' of an archived Request, of course the new copy has the new metadata but is using the PDF from the Request it was copied from. This causes confusion for other users when they see the data of the source request in the document.

Is there any way to 'force' the document class to always make a new document (including a copied one) using its assigned template?

  • The built-in Make Copy option does not offer any configuration: it simply creates an exact duplicate of the selected object.

You may want to explore the Object Creator in the Compliance Kit, which provides more flexibility for defining how the new object is created. That said, I'm not sure whether your specific use case is supported, so some testing would be required.

For more detailed guidance and assistance with the configuration, I recommend reaching out to your M-Files representative.
