File change version

Hi!

Our users is still new to how things works with versions. "I haven't done any change" they think but it could be a workflow that makes a version rise etc.
I found some script on how to create a metadata that only adds up if the actual file has been changed not the metadata on the document. But it is not 100% and as I have understood vbscript will not be allowed in the future. Is there any other way around this?
