Copying Files into Traditional Folders

I just found out that the empty file is a notepad file and the name of the document is the password. The file contains nothing in it. Only the name of the file is the password. Any suggestions?

You could create a separate object type for this use: for instance object type Credentials if there are more of these types of passwords to store, with a property called Password and potentially other properties (Notes about the system the password is for and so on). Then you can control the visibility of the credential with the object and property definition permissions.

Many thanks for the response. but currently I am just copying them into traditional folders for a couple of months as we are planning to move from perpetual licensing to a subscription licensing. After that I will try out the Network Folder Connector. But just out of curiosity why would M-Files stop me from copying any kind of files. Be it empty or full. Its something that they need to think about. 

I wouldn't move such files into M-Files at all but rather plan the vault structure and the migration so that it serves the users best in the future. The password is currently stored as a file because the file system doesn't offer any better ways to store this kind of information. With M-Files you have better ways to do it so I would try to think of the best possible solution before moving any files into the vault rather than trying to replicate the current structure 1:1.

Of course you may have other considerations such as the project schedule here, I'm just pointing out that people who are used to file folders and their limitations often don't realize that there is a smarter way to work. 

I totally get your point but I cannot do it for 100000 files right now.
