Installation issue on W2019 server - Keyset as registered is invalid

When installing M-Files on a W2019 server, installation fails with message

ActivatorApp.cpp, 250, Keyset as registered is invalid. (0x8009001A)
Crypt.cpp, 1271, Keyset as registered is invalid. (0x8009001A)
(M-Files 21.12.10943.6)

Any idea how to handle this?

  • Hi there,

M-Files Customer support has faced this issue earlier.

As a first step, make sure that no antivirus software causes these issues. For example McAfee has been pointed to cause such issues on server machine in the past.

    For that possibility, please review

The "Keyset as registered is invalid" error message often indicates a corruption with some of your internal Windows files more than an issue with M-Files itself. Here is an article on Microsoft's answers forums describing a similar problem.

The course of action recommended in that article is as follows:
    1) Set a Windows restore point that you can roll back to in case of system failure.
    2) Open Windows Explorer and click on the View menu at the top of the screen. If Hidden Items isn't already enabled, enable it.
    3) Go to your C:\ drive. Double-click on Users and then your user name. Double-click on Appdata, then Roaming, then Microsoft, then Crypto. Rename the "RSA" folder to "RSA Old".
    4) Reboot the PC and attempt to re-install M-Files again.

    - Also Microsoft tool can be tried:
