Attach a file to a view

There isn't a direct way to do this with configuration as far as I know. A couple of options that come to mind:

• Depending on what kind of content is displayed in the view and the instructions you would like to display, you might be able to use metadata card configuration to add a link to the instructions on the metadata card header. However this would be displayed whenever an object matching the rule filter is selected, not only in a specific view. An example:
  
  
  
• If you are comfortable developing UI extensions, you could perhaps do this with a custom dashboard: https://developer.m-files.com/Frameworks/User-Interface-Extensibility-Framework/Dashboards/

First option is no good. The data needs to be visible without opening anything else up. I already said they can just have a document with the instructions and then just use the preview tab, too hard apparanty.. (I have very precious users..)

Second option looks interesting. I will have a look at it.

Out of curiosity, why can’t anything but a SSRS url be used in the report? Is it something I am doing or is there a internal check. I envision a time when I am going to need to move all the SSRS reports to powerBI..

I suppose the report object type is designed solely for displaying SSRS reports so it cannot be used for other content. I'm not familiar with the design decisions that have gone into this.

Take a look at the M-Files Process Maps addon. It can be configured to show a specific page in each view (however that page has to be created in the Process Maps editor - it cannot be an existing document). See the Job Aids section of the documentation:
