The bottom pane appears to be broken.

When enabled by right clicking -> Display Mode -> Bottom Pane -> Normal. The bottom pane appears, but it is not populated. It' is essential to put the Metacard there.

Well, it may be activated, but has no function and disappears again to default (none) after refreshing the UI.

Yes, because you can still develop UIX application that will use the bottom pane, but the metadata card will not be showed there with the new version of desktop client.
