Edit or Delete Comments

Is there a way to allow users to edit or delete comments? We are looking at using the Comment field to store and report information about a document, but would need the ability to edit the data if needed. I am not seeing a permission to allow editing of comments. Any ideas?

  • At the moment comments are not designed to be editable. Is there some reason why you couldn't use a normal property on the metadata card for this?

  • We receive one document that may have several rate changes in it. Each rate change would need to be tracked individually and the number of rate changes in a document can vary. I can create a custom field to put the information in, but we would want each rate change to be in a unique field (for reporting purposes), instead of all lumped together in one text field. We thought we could do this with the built-in Comment field and add several comments. This would work, except if we needed to go back and edit or update the information.

I am now looking at using an Assignment for each rate change.

  • It sounds potentially like having a separate object for each rate change is the way to go.

That way the separate object can be edited and versioned as needed.

  • Great idea! I actually like this more than the Assignment. I can customize the metadata fields for the separate objects.

  • Just chiming in here! (Albeit a little late)

Our application Portals (Found here: The Ultimate Custom User Interface for M-Files – CtrlPortals (ctrldocs.com)) is able to show a combined feed of version comments as well as external comment objects. Here you are also able to edit the comment object contents as well as mentioning people, posting screenshots etc Smile

In my opinion it should also be possible to edit or remove version comments via our interface, if the user has the right permissions of course.

If it sounds interesting, feel free to reach out!
