Add Button to Status Bar

Hi,

I’ve been working with UIX and I’m trying to establish whether there are any methods (documented or otherwise) that allow adding icons to the top status bar (near communication status icon / button).

I‘m trying to provide users with some status information based on work they are performing, and this appears to be the most logical location in the UI to add a “health” button with corresponding popup showing any relevant alerts, but I can’t even work out what terminology Mfiles uses for this portion of the UI, which is making it difficult to locate appropriate documentation.

  • No worries Craig, thanks for the info. From my reading the options are to add something to the task area (which would be a static link or group of links), adding a tab to the right hand pane (again, non-dynamic when loaded), and it seems it’s possible to raise windows toast notifications - am I right in saying that there aren’t any locations where dynamic UX elements can be exposed to the user other than toast notifications which we can freely raise?

  • What exactly do you want to achieve? A dashboard in a tab can certainly be dynamic. Commands in other places are able to be added and removed, or shown and hidden, to be dynamic.

  • we have a number of business systems independent to mfiles (timesheets, accounting, etc). Because mfiles is the primary interface used in the company we want to surface information in a way that people will see it. Things like overdue timesheets or errors in invoices we currently address by sending emails, however people don’t always identify this in a timely manner. What I’m trying to do is have some separate “alert” style system in mfiles that is available at a glance regardless of what else they are doing in mfiles at the time. The equivalent of a notification pane on a mobile phone would be the ideal thing here.

  • Okay.

Probably the best thing would be a dashboard that collates this information. It doesn't give you a visual alert outside of the dashboard itself but you could perhaps automatically show/select the dashboard in some situations.
