Hide Related Objects

Hello,

How do you hide the related objects within a Document?

For example, the dropdown for the multi-file document includes the actual files, and then all the relationships. Our users would rather only see related properties in the metadata card.

Other posts on here suggest the use of the Compliance Kit but the contents are outdated at this point, or have gone unanswered. The manual says I can edit the hierarchy display in the Advanced Configuration settings now, without the need for the Compliance Kit, but I still don’t really know how to configure the rules properly.

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!

  • If they don't want to see any relationships under documents, this kind of a rule should do it. Users need to log out of the vault and back in to get the new setting after you have created the rule.

However I would still consider if you really want to do this, effortless navigation between related objects is one of the key features of M-Files in my opinion. Perhaps you can just hide some irrelevant relationships and leave others in place? This can be done with the "From" and "To" Relationship Visibility rules under Related Object Hierarchy.

Note that these rules only affect the classic M-Files Desktop client. M-Files Web users will still see the relationships for now, the support for these rules should be added for the web client at some point in the future.

  • Thanks Joonas -- I'm probably going to look into the Relationship Visibility as well. Good to know that this is only pertinent to Desktop clients; is this something we should see in the web client soon, or is this something that could be a good time away?

  • I don't know about the timeline unfortunately. Hopefully soon enough since the new M-Files Desktop that gets its initial release later this year is based on M-Files Web and will not have this feature until the web client supports these rules.
