Workspace and columns.

Is it possible for the administrator to distribute to users which columns should be visible by default in workspaces? As we can do on views in the classic client
"Save As Common Display Settings..."

  • This is not yet possible in the new clients where Workspaces are configured otherwise. We are exploring adding that option later, but don't yet have confirmed plans or timelines.

    That said, you may be able to achieve this via the classic M-Files Desktop. The process is not very straightforward or intuitive, but it can be used as a workaround if you need to distribute column settings urgently.

    1. Switch to the classic M-Files Desktop.
    2. Unhide the "Built-In" view under "Other Views".
    3. Open the Built-In view and locate the workspace view by its ID. The format is <parent object type ID - tab object type ID>.
      Example: In this case, I have Suppliers (ID 105) with tabs for Documents (ID 0) and Projects (ID 104).
    4. Drill down to the view level where you see the actual content (e.g., documents) and adjust the columns settings.
    5. Save as common display settings.

    Workspaces use the Built-In view hierarchy behind the scenes, which enables this workaround via the classic client.

    Now it will be even more fun to introduce Workspaces to our users Slight smile
    And we hope that there will be an opportunity to do this in the new M-Files client in the near future.
