I have now had 3 machines not complete installation of the February 2020 update. The old version is still installed but not running and the new version is "running" but not as it presents with an error "M-Files Client is not Running." and the Windows Installer Service is stuck open. I can't install anything else until it completes or I force it to close. The fix so far is to kill the installer service and then remove the new version of M-Files, start the old M-Files services and then re-update to the new version by running the downloaded installer, but that's not a fix in my opinion. I've created a ticket with M-Files and am hoping maybe someone out here has seen this before. Let's see who offers the faster support.
Alright, the remote method for users who need help. It seems users are updating fine IF their Office Applications are closed. For those who are not quitting their applications:
The installer needs to be killed 1. Bring up the task manager and scroll down to the process ?>Windows Installer? (note, it?s the one with the greater than sign) 2. Right click on the process and click ?Go to details? 3. On the Details Tab you will see the process highlighted, note the PID# 4. Start an Administrative command prompt using one of the following methods: a. Right click on the CMD application and run as a user with administrative rights b. Click start and enter the following: runas /user:\ cmd i. enter the password for the admin account you are using. 5. In the new elevated command prompt enter the following to stop the installer process: taskkill /f /pid xxxxx (xxxxx is the pid noted from step 3) 6. The installer process will be stopped 7. Next we need to remove the new version of M-Files so type the following in the command prompt: control appwiz.cpl 8. Find the new version of M-Files (you should also see the old version) in the list 9. Select the new version and click ?Uninstall? The installer will remove the new version. 10. You may see errors along the way, always accept what it is offering and always click Retry. 11. NOW, MAKE SURE all Microsoft Office applications are closed. 12. Once the application is uninstalled you can right click on the M-Files Icon in the system tray and select settings -> Automatic Update. This should bring up the option to run the update again, or the application will automatically display a message that it will retry. 13. Let it retry. The installer can take a while and you will know it is done when only the new icon is on the desktop and the old one disappears. (some users delete the old one so don?t be fooled by it not being there)
