Macro Requirement for M-Files Office Add-ins

Hi, we're trialling disabling macros throughout office as part of a cybersecurity program which is being instated, however it appears that many of the M-Files plugins for office are using macros to achieve their functionality. When macros are disabled it appears that M-Files for outlook will not load at all, and that M-Files for office triggers errors on loading Word (unsure whether this will impact functionality at all).

Is anybody able to confirm whether M-Files functions correctly with all macros disabled within office, or what functionality is impacted by having macros disabled?

Cheers

  • I should clarify - I can't tell if it is macros specifically that it needs, or VBA for office support, however when opening any M-Files document in word the error will pop up stating "The function you are attempting to run contains macros or content that requires macro language support. When this software was installed you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls".

If I disable the "M-Files Office Add-in (24.12.14341.6)" then the warning does not appear on opening a document, so it does seem to be linked to this add-in. What is confusing me is that the M-Files add-in appears to work without any problem, in spite of the error message, so I'm just trying to establish what functionality may be affected.

  • This support article seems to cover the error message you receive: Warning about unsupported macros when opening Office documents

I'm not familiar with all the technical details related to this but my guess is that the add-in requires some of these VBA features to function properly (for instance the Insert Property functionality?). If you need further information, I suggest contacting your M-Files reseller who can liaise with M-Files support teams as necessary.
