I am attempting a migration to sql server with a metadata file size of about 4GB. I have done my best to adhere to best practices from the KB articles. The migration process always hangs at step 7/8 (Finalizing DB Structure...) with no sign of progress. I

I have tried this multiple times always with the same result. I was not able to identify any useful logs on either the M-Files server or the SQL server. My current attempt has been sitting on step 7 of the migration process for over 48 hours. I am on M-Files version 23.12.13247.4 and SQL server 2019. If I create a test document vault I am able to perform the migration without issue. I have tried to use SSMS on the target SQL server to verify whether progress is being made and I can see that some information was successfully moved to the new DB.  There is an INSERT process to 1 locked table called OVPVPBUILTINH that has been running since I started the migration.  I can see that the process is using cpu time but because the table is locked I can't see whether I am making any progress.

If someone could help me with some troubleshooting options, I would be truly grateful.

  • Hi Dillijo, are you able to do a backup of the vault? Have you tried a verify and repair? In past i have a similar issue on a M-Files Server, however i could not migrate one vault out of 5.Fortunately it was a demo vault (which i tried first). I never figured out why this vault could not be migrated...

Have you created a M-Files Support Case, hopefully they can help you?

    Best regards
    Stefan
