Change internal object to external object (addresses)

If the external ID from the new system is the same as the external ID of the object in M-Files then from recollection it should work.  The trick, though, is to make sure those existing objects have an external ID and that it matches.

I know that the external ID can be set using the API.  I don't recall whether there's a trick here for doing it any other way... I will ask around.

Thanks a lot for your answer. So there is no external ID at the moment, since it always has been an internal object. Would be glad if you could help me out with the REST request. 

Maybe the POST {{MFWSUrl}}/objects/{{ObjectType}}/{{ObjectID}}/{{ObjectVersion}}/properties is the correct request to set the property?

What would be the name of the propertydef?

I had a quick discussion with the man who knows everything (Joonas Linkola ) and he commented that the M-Files Importer can do this.  If you're a partner then there's another possible unofficial tool option.  Let us know.
