Connections to external file sources

Hi all,

Using "connections to external sources" in the M-Files Admin console, we have tried to configure a connection from our M-Files server to a public file folder on one of our PCs. The configuration seems to work, as the folder is presented in the M-Files client and we receive no error messages but none of the data within this location is available through the M-Files client.

Am I right in thinking that for this to work at all we will need to purchase and apply a licence for the M-Files Network Folder Connector? Or is there likely to be something I have done incorrectly with the config attached below?

Many thanks,
Pod.
  • Hi Pod,
Connection to external sources is on old M-Files feature that has nothing to do with the new IML based Network Folder Connector. It does not require additional licenses. Your configuration looks OK to me and should work if you have specified valid credentials for the connection, and if you have a proper filter in place (Include "*.*" if you want to show everything).
So check what you have behind the "Set Account" and "Filter" buttons.
    BR, Karl

    Hi Karl,

Thanks for the advice :) Our filter is currently set to *.* and in the Set Account we have tested both the "Local system account" setting and specified users.
At this point I believe it is more likely and issue with the smb sharing on the target PC rather than the M-Files config. I'll keep cracking at it and let you know how I go :)

    Many thanks!

So I got this working in the end, we had the incorrect file path specified for the target folder in the external file source config window. Thanks for the assist Karl :)
