The soon available Android M-Files mobile application update has a completely refreshed UI and the look and feel is now closer to web and new desktop clients and like in iOS M-Files Mobile app. UI changes include improvements in accessibility and discoverability with new icons, navigation, and action buttons - now also in dark mode. There are now fewer clicks to access views, create and edit objects and sort views and search results.
Biggest changes:
- Main views are shown as tabs and can be accessed by tapping the name or swiping the list area.
- Related objects are now accessed from listing just like in other clients.
- Metadata is right away editable without separately accessing edit state. Also adding scanned files or images from camera is faster because of the dedicated button for it.
- Facets can be used as search filters. (Requires gRPC connection and that the Facets are enabled in the vault).
- Dark mode.
- Favorites are being deprecated but the old favorites are still found from favorites view in All tab.
- Assigned to me and checked out objects are now collected to Notifications view. This can be accessed from the bottom bar and there is also indication when this view has some content.
- All settings are now collected under Settings -view accessible from bottom bar.
- In tablet in landscape orientation user can now see listing, metadata and preview at the same time or choose to view metadata or preview for wider listing area.
More information about the new UI and navigation can be read from this document: M-Files for Android, User Interface Improvements in December '23 Update (site.com)
As part of this change:
Older Android versions are not supported anymore. See Community post about this: M-Files Mobile Ending Support for iOS Versions 11,12,13, Android Versions 7, 8 - Product News - News & Announcements - M-Files Community
Supported versions can be found also from user manual: M-Files Mobile and M-Files Web Requirements
The December 2023 update for the M-Files Android Mobile App will no longer work with M-Files servers that use an M-Files version older than 12.0.6400.37, this means users cannot use the December 2023 version of the Android app to connect to vaults that are on servers using an M-Files version that is older than 12.0.6400.37.
The same server-level support is already in use in M-Files for iOS. We recommend that you always use the most recent available version of the software.
We do recommend always using the latest version, but if you have some reason not to use this renewed UI version, then please don't install it (turn automatic update off). Reverting to the previous version is not supported.
