March 6th, 2026 Update
We launched license automation in December 2024 to enable automatic license delivery, eliminate manual update errors, and enhance subscription visibility. This automation streamlines license management, reduces administrative effort, and provides greater control over your subscriptions.
Important notice: Manual license delivery for self-hosted (on-premises) M-Files subscriptions will be discontinued and replaced with automated license delivery by the end of 2026.
Action required: To ensure uninterrupted service, please update your M-Files Server to version 2024.8 or later and complete the required steps before your next renewal. Once enabled, licenses will be applied automatically —no manual installation is needed.
Need help?
If automation cannot be enabled before renewal, please contact your M-Files Representative or Contact Us.
Here’s what this means for you:
- Fully Automated License Delivery: Licenses are now directly delivered to your servers, eliminating the need for manual installation with each amendment or renewal.
- Standardized, Error-Free Process: Experience a more streamlined and accurate licensing workflow.
- Enhanced Visibility and Control: Gain improved oversight and management of your subscriptions.
Requirements:
- To enable license automation, please update to M-Files server version 2024.8 or later.
- For the license automation to function, an internet connection to M-Files is required. Port 443 should be open for outbound traffic in your firewall. For enhanced security, outbound traffic can be limited to the following address: https://mfmgmtapiprod.cloudvault.m-files.com. Please read the support article.
- Notice: If your subscription is hosted via M-Files Cloud services, no action is required, as license automation is already in place.
How to verify the license automation:
We are gradually enabling on-premises customers to use automated license management. To check if license automation is already enabled on your on-premises server, open M-Files Admin and navigate to License Management. If "License expires" shows exactly 30 days from the current date, license automation is active. For more information: User Guide: License Management.
