M-Files Cloud Continuous Updates: Desktop Clients

M-Files Cloud Continuous Updates: Desktop Clients

The continuous updates process for M-Files Cloud is starting to reach its final step. For more information on continuous updates in general, please see our original post from March.

Starting with M-Files Online 26.6, the M-Files Desktop will also start receiving continuous updates.

What do the Desktop updates mean in practice?
We will be able to utilize smaller incremental downloads via a delivery point, and provide the M-Files Desktop client users the latest and most up-to-date components just like we do for the Web client. So, while there will be the "full client package" that gets downloaded more rarely, we are able to update pieces of the software when most appropriate. In short, this means smaller increments in updates, and faster fixes.

What do I need to do?
Nothing. As soon as both the client and server versions are in M-Files 26.6 or newer, these delivery point updates will be in use. They will be downloaded automatically, and enabled during the next login session.

How is this visible in the clients?
For the Desktop updates, you can see the two versions mentioned in the "About M-Files" window after the Client version. The client version without brackets is version for the content coming directly from the delivery point, and the version in brackets gives you the base version that was deployed via an installation package.

Can these updates be turned off?
The delivery point updates can be turned off using the same switch as the current Automatic updates.

What about Long-Term Support (LTS) customers?
There will be separate Delivery Point channels for LTS versions, so that we will be able to deliver Service Releases for LTS customers.

What about on-premises environments?
This will have no effect for on-premises environments.

What about classic desktop client?
This will have no effect for the classic desktop client.
