Result of change file data location

Dear All,

We have a large vault with a lot of files (~150Gb) which we store in SQL database.

We would like to change the location of file data from SQL to file-system folder.

My question is where will the result of this changing?

According to the userguide's information, if we are changing the vault file data location from the vault database to the file system, the file data of the vault is then copied to the new location.

Is it meaning that, the earlier created, already existed files will removed from the SQL databased or not?

Could we reduce the size of the SQL database any way?

Thanks any advice in advance

  • Recently we made that move and our database shrank by about 80%—though that depends on how much metadata you've got. All the files were moved over to the file system without any hitches. Just make sure you've got a disk big enough to hold everything.

Like bright-ideas.dk mentioned, it's a good idea to run an Optimize Database afterward and do a reindex as well.

Keep in mind that the whole process takes a while, so plan accordingly for your maintenance windows.
