How to remove a property from an object connected to an external source?

We have an object with an External Object Connection.  There's a property on the objects that we want removed.  I opened the External Object Type Connector for the object, and under Column mappings, I deleted the mapping of this value to the property.  Now when I look at the object properties in Configuration, the property is no longer listed as being a part of that object.  I then refreshed the objects.  But I still have objects that show that property on the metadata card.  How do I remove the property from the existing documents?

  • You would have to delete it from all of those objects. Beware that this will create a new version and that the property will still be visible in the old versions.

If the number of objects is limited to a few thousands you could delete the property manually. Make sure the property is not included in the Class settings. Create a view that shows only objects with this property. Select all of the objects in the view and delete the property from the metadata card. Repeat on the next page until you have deleted it from all of the objects.

If the number of objects is larger than what you reasonably can handle manually, there are tools that can work their way through all of those objects and delete the property for you. Contact your reseller and let them help you fix the problem.
