Client Upgrade Issue – M: Drive Now Seen as External by DLP

Hi,

We have a customer running Client version 20.4 (2018) who is unable to upgrade. The issue seems to be related to how the M: drive is now recognized by their Data Loss Prevention (DLP) system.

Previously, M: was not perceived as an external drive, but something appears to have changed, and now the DLP manager treats it as one. Due to company policy, writing or adding files to external drives is not allowed, which prevents the upgrade.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Are there any known solutions or workarounds?

Thanks!

  • If you are a partner then I would suggest you raise this via the support portal.  It would be useful to understand the specific DLP system in place and what exactly is happening here (e.g. whether the update fails, or whether they have tried it and have encountered issues, etc.).

  • Hi,
A ticket has already been raised.

The update goes smoothly and reading data is fine but the problem is adding data in M-Files.
The DLP manager does not allow data to be written/added to M-Files since it identifies as a removeable/external disk.
So it blocks adding to M-Files but also editing current documents and yes it's a DLP configuration but customer is unwilling to allow M: as a disk.

One thing that is good to know is the last time they tried to update the client was back in 2022.
