Problem with Named User not showing up in Named Access Control list

This is self hosted M-Files 2018 (19.8.8114.8)

We have a Named Access Control List we call "Edit for Named Access, Read only all others". The settings are exactly that. "Named User" has "Delete, Edit, Read" permission. "All internal users" have "Read" permission.

We have a document that has permissions of this Named Access Control List.

The document class does not have "Automatic Permissions: Restrict the permissions of objects that refer to this class" set. There is no workflow default for new objects of this class.

When I click on the permissions to view the Effective permissions, the list of users that have "Read, Edit, Delete" access do not match the current list of users that have Named User licenses. Some of the users are old users that have since had their license removed and accounts disabled. It looks like something isn't processing the live list of licenses. I'm at a loss where to look next.

  • I don't believe you can set up a NACL or user group to be automatically driven by the type of licence assigned to a user.

My assumption is that you have a user group named something like "Named User" which someone - at some point - has populated with the users who had named licences.  Over time that list has deviated from reality (as users have started and left and this group wasn't maintained), and thus it's now not showing accurate data.  I would start by taking a look there and see whether you simply need to update that list.  Again: it can't be driven automatically by the licence type, so you will need to proactively manage this (or use some scripting to do so, perhaps).

The version you're running is very old now (6 years).  If you are struggling to fix this and do still have an active support contract then you could reach out to the support team.

  • Thank you Craig! You were correct. I hadn't noticed the user group "Named User" and had assumed it was a pseudo group based on who had a Named User license.
