Attaching a link into MS Teams

This is an unfortunate limitation of Microsoft Teams, it only allows http(s) links so the M-Files URLs using m-files:// as the protocol do not work when pasted.

We are planning to move to https links all around in M-Files but this is still on the roadmap and not yet available. In the meantime there is a small UI extension that adds a new "Copy Hyperlink to Clipboard" command to the desktop client's context menu so you can easily get a link that works also in Teams. We are using that also internally until the link enhancements are released.

Joonas quick question, does the link open in the Web browser, ideally we want users using the desktop client

It provides a link to a site that transfers the URL to mflink, which the workstation can open. In case user has access to the linked object.

Hi Timo, i just got our IT dept to install it, and nothing happened.  they ran the LinkConvert Application file.  But i cant see anything in M-Files when i right click on the file.

Install the application to the server, then make sure that people log out of the vault (not just close M-Files; actually make sure that you log out) and log back in; it is the login process that transfers new applications to the client.

oh sorry i thought this was installed on the local laptop.  We don't have a server hosting M-Files.

You will have the server software installed somewhere.  You need to speak to your IT department to get the application installed into the M-Files vault.  They can follow the instructions here: Installing and Managing Vault Applications (m-files.com)

Edit: I suppose that I should have been a bit more clear, I'm sorry.  The application is a "client-side" application (it runs within the M-Files Desktop Client), but it is installed onto the server and pushed to clients as part of the login procedure.  So, yes, it does run on your laptops, but it's installed to the server.

thanks Craig, no worries.  I have access to the M-Files Admin Console actually.  And when I went to test it on our Test Vault, Right Click - Applications - Install and locate the install file.  It does not do anything.  i get this message.  Or am I missing something.

Which file are you selecting at that point?  You should select the actual zip file, not some file within it.
