Folder structure when importing

I'm wondering if it's possible to import folders in such a way that it automatically groups subfolders together? For instance, I want to import a folder from my PC with 3 subfolders and all these subfolders have files in them. And on M-Files there also exists a folder with the same name and same 3 subfolders. What I would like to know is, when I import the folder from my PC can it automatically detect that there is also the same folder in M-Files already existing and can it put the files into the 3 subfolders where they belong.

Thanks, Žan

  • Hi Zan,

Basically, there are no folders in M-Files. The program can show virtual folders based on documents being grouped by a property such as Class, type or whatever. If your 3 subfolders represent 3 different document classes, types or other distinct property you can simply add the appropriate value for that property on all documents in each folder of origin. Then it is simple enough to group documents in M-Files by the same property and have them displayed in the appropriate virtual folders.

There are some options using Traditional Folders, but using that features means missing out on all the advantages of metadata (What versus Where), so I will not encourage that.

Importing can be done in many ways. The actual procedure depends on the method chosen.
