Identify documents under specific NACL

Hi everyone,

Let's say that we have this list of NACL and our authorized users will apply the NACL to some of our documents in our vault.

For instance, they have applied the highlighted NACL to 100++ documents in M-Files.

And now, they wanted to see what are the documents that are using this specific NACL. Is there any way we can do this in M-Files ?

  • You can search by the access control list via the Permissions tab in Additional Conditions. See the note in the user guide, though: if you have pseudo-users from metadata in the NACL, the search results may not be accurate.

  • Hi Joonas,

Let's say that I have this automatic permission applied into this document. As you can see here, the selected permission setting is Level 2 document as displayed on the left.

However, when I tried to filter down level 2 document permission as per below screenshot, there are no results. In fact, we do have lots of document like this it is not showing any result at all.

Did i missed any step or is this not applicable with automatic permission ?

  • If it seems in your tests that it doesn't work for automatic permissions, then I suppose it doesn't. I don't have any deeper knowledge on this, if you need to check some details then I suggest contacting M-Files Support.

  • We have had this issue with clients for some time.

Below is the last response I have had from M-Files Support (in January 2023).

    - has any progress been made on issue ID 15326?

    Thanks, Sarah

Thanks for your time on the session.

This is a known issue logged as ID 15326, 'Search: "Access Control List Is" and "Access Control List Is Not" do not work as expected'.

Typically the fix/implementation time frames vary greatly depending on several factors, like the importance of a fix/new feature, the complexity of the implementation, and how many customers have requested for the feature or reported the issue to affect their operations.

M-Files Product Development constantly evaluates and prioritizes the open issues based on those kinds of criteria. For example, the issues that might compromise security are fixed asap regardless of how many customers (even none, if we notice something like this ourselves) have reported the problem, while the priority of usability improvements or new features that are not specified in our own development road maps is affected more by the number of customers who request for them, and may take months or longer to implement, if they don't get much attention from customers.
