Using Azure authentication with the REST API

Hi!

We are assisting a partner who wants to connect to M-Files REST API from SharePoint 365. They need to use Azure AD authentication with an app-registration. The M-Files installation is on-prem but Azure AD connected for user authentication.

This is described from the SharePoint side here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/spfx/use-aadhttpclient

Does anyone have experience with this kind of authentication?

Thanks Joonas.
I have seen this and presented it to the SharePoint developers. But according to them, this is not the same. I am no expert at all in this area, and have not had time to study it / compare in detail.

Craig Hawker - do you have any experience with this?

I too am not an expert on this, but my suspicion is that they want client credentials flow (i.e. server-to-server, with no user involved). I don't believe that we currently support this. We support authorisation code flow, as shown in the content that Joonas Linkola pointed to.

We have an improvement request in our tracker about this, with ID 162906.

How about the Resource Owner Password Credentials Flow? Is this supported?

Officially-supported flows are shown in the content that Joonas linked to and will be updated if this changes.

At the moment, though, the only flow that we explicitly support is the authorisation code flow. That's not to say that you can't get others working, but that we don't explicitly support them.
