How to stop documents in M-Files Client getting classified as "Document" when using drag and drop?

The M-Files Online May 2024 update for the M-Files client introduced an "improvement" that no longer forces the metadata card to ask for the required Document Class. Instead all documents are uploaded as "Document", which is very frustrating.

I tried deleting the document class called "Document" in M-Files Admin, but get an error message saying: "You cannot delete a built-in class."

We have used M-Files for more than 10 years without issue, but since the roll out of this change in May, all documents uploaded are just labelled "Document", which makes it very difficult to make any sense of what has been uploaded. Despite "Document Class" being a required field (see screenshot), it just uploads the document without any questions asked.

We use M-Files in conjunction with Dynamics 365, where we tie a "folder" to each CRM Opportunity. These are using built-in views.

Is there any way turn off this "improvement"? How are other M-Files users dealing with this situation?

For clarification I have included a screenshot. As you can see in the screenshot, everything is just labelled "Document" when you use drag and drop with the M-Files client. The web version still works normal (see screenshot).

Thanks,

Chris

  • Thank you for your response, Craig. And thank you for raising it in the internal tracker. Much appreciated.

If there would be a way to configure it as an admin, that would solve all our problems.

Do you know if the web version will also get this "improvement" in the future? We could force all users to start using the Web version and uninstall the client altogether.

Alternatively, I'll prepare an email to send out to all our users and instruct them how to classify the document manually.
