Indirect Metadata in View Columns

This topic was discussed a while back, but it is closed.  I want to readdress this to see if it is possible or if it is on the M-Files development radar.

Old topic:   Indirect metadata in views

The idea is that one can select an indirect property to display in the results.  (i.e. Property1.Property2)

I can see how this can introduce complications if Property1 or Property2 contains many values, but some simplifications can be applied (such as showing the value "(multiple values)" or something similar.

The workaround would be to create a new calculated property on the primary objects being displayed, however, this causes unnecessary complications regarding the primary object when it is used in other contexts.   It seems overkill to have the overhead of an additional property just because you want to display it in a view.

  • Unfortunately this is not yet possible without the workaround you described. We have a long-standing improvement request recorded for this (ID 12740) and I've added you as a requestor but it's not on the active roadmap at the moment. I personally agree that it would be a useful feature.
