Previewing DWG Files

Hi,

AutoCAD is installed on the PC and Windows 10 previews the dwg files in Explorer Preview Pane or as Icons,  however in M-Files the Previewer reports it cannot preview the dwg files it requires the application to be installed,  MF is 11.2.4320.77

Any suggestions
  • Hi

This is because AutoCAD does not implement a true preview handler, but just a non-interactive thumbnail. Windows Explorer shows this thumbnail but M-Files does not currently support showing the thumbnail.

I good workaround is to install DWG TrueView on client machines. That implements "true previewer" meaning that you can also interact with the preview image (zoom in and out etc.)

Mika, I will try this. Although I am talking to a user who was able to preview both DGN and DWG in M-files, but has upgraded to 15.3 and now says they cannot preview either types. They have reinstalled the DGN previewer software but M-Files still doesn't preview the files. I will ask them what dwg viewer they have installed.

Should I raise this in M-files support?
  • You can certainly create a support ticket. I'm pretty confident that DWG previews do not work in any M-Files version if you have just Autodesk AutoCAD installed but I'm not always right :).

Installing DWGTrueView did enable DWG files to be Previewed in M-Files. Is there a similar fix for viewing DGN files ?
