MetadataCard Custom Placeholder not working in M-Files Web

Custom placeholders are not yet supported on the M-Files Web, but I'm told this support should be added in the near future when we are introducing a new React-based metadata card for the web client. If all goes well this should happen in the December release, so keep your eye on the release notes and test again after you have updated to the release with the new metadata card.
