Automatic logout (New Web) without close the browser

Hi all,

According to that document:
Specifying the Automatic Logout Time in M-Files.pdf the session timeout for the New M-Files Web does not occur when the user has one of these user interfaces open.

Is there a way with the New Web to automatic user account logout if the browser is open but the M-Files session inactive, like with the classic Web ?

This would be very useful in some case...

Thank you

  • The wording is confusing to say the least. In document, registry settings has the word "inactivity" for every different environment (web, new web, client) while, apparently, it means different things.

"4. Automatic Logout in M-Files Web

You can specify the session timeout for M-Files Web and M-Files Add-Ins for Teams, SharePoint, and Salesforce. The session timeout does not occur when the user has one of these user interfaces open. Instead, it occurs when the client is no longer connected to the server. For example, the session times out after the user has closed all web browser tabs that are connected to the vault, or when the client computer loses its internet connection."

The example describes something different than other mediums (classic web, desktop client) for "inactivity".

In classic web and client you could have M-Files open AND the registry setting would log the user out after amount of time of "inactivity"  set in registry... Which is why the name AUTOMATIC logout made sense; no user interaction needed just inactivity and bam, you are logged out after set amount of time.

Now, it has same wording (inactivity) for new web but "the example" talks about session to be terminated first to log user out. Why the wording is same while, apparently, the conditions has changed is unclear.

If you are changing a behaviour that is more10 years old, at least be clear about it. like "there is no more automatic logout". Which is the case for new web as user interaction is needed (closing the M-Files windows) for session termination. The set amount of time of inactivity is no longer enough.

Back to the problem in hand, new web DOES NOT logs out automatically. At least, Not in the sense M-Files has been doing for at least last 12 years. IF our users had the habit of closing tabs when they are done with it, we wouldnt need automatic logout in first place :D

Hell, how many tabs and browser windows do you guys have open right now ?

  • Hello CagriE,

I totally agree with you. There is some confusion in the documentation and that is why I initialy asked this question.

Moreover, I consider that the current session timeout option for the new web is a "defect" from a functional point of view.
