Mail notifications in on-premise installations and deprecation of basic authentication in Microsoft Exchange Online

Mail notifications in on-premise installations and deprecation of basic authentication in Microsoft Exchange Online

Microsoft will deprecate basic authentication in Exchange Online in the end of 2022. The initial deadline was the end of September, but it could still be extended manually, but the final deadline is the end of the year. M-Files can use Exchange Online for mail notifications in on-premise environments.

What are the impacts?

M-Files customers will not be impacted immediately by this change.

In an on-premise environment, M-Files mail notifications will continue to work since Microsoft's change will not affect SMTP. However, Microsoft does recommend switching over to modern authentication. M-Files is currently working on OAuth 2.0 support for mail notifications. The target for the OAuth support in the May release (edited March 22).

The M-Files Cloud is not affected.
