Upgrading to the new M-Files Desktop experience
The new M-Files Desktop is the primary focus for all future features and is the recommended client moving forward. Transitioning requires the use of the gRPC protocol. While gRPC is enabled by default in our cloud offering, on-premises customers need to take certain steps to enable it. Please read How to transition to the new M-Files Desktop to help assess your environment and to find easiest path to transition.
New Features and Enhancement highlights to M-Files Online:
- Client-side OCR for Web and New Desktop. Enables users to initiate Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on documents directly from the new M-Files Desktop and Web clients. Additionally, OCR is automatically prompted to new image files based on the configuration defined in Advanced Vault Settings.
- User can switch desktop client experience even when default user interface is set to the vault. The Advanced Vault Setting “Select Default User Interface” has been renamed to “Hide Toggle” in M-Files Desktop Settings. The Default User Interface setting now applies only to the first client launch if the user has never opened either the classic or new desktop client before. Users can still switch between desktop client experiences even when a default interface is defined for the vault.
