Normally we wouldn't post news about a point release, but this one brings with it the first steps on an important journey: bringing the Compliance Kit to the new clients! For those unfamiliar, the new M-Files clients (M-Files Web, along with the new M-Files Desktop client) require updated UI applications. The new version of the UI framework is significantly different, and over the next few months, you'll start to see more first- and third-party applications migrated across to support these clients.
What is the M-Files Compliance Kit?
The M-Files Compliance Kit adds a range of capabilities to M-Files. Some of these capabilities improve the M-Files user experience, such as by adding simple buttons to control how objects are copied, while others add automated, behind-the-scenes functionality that supports business use cases, like combining documents into a single PDF or automating the maintenance of certain object metadata.
New Features and Improvements
- This release adds support for Version Control and Object Creator in M-Files Web and the new M-Files Desktop clients. No changes are needed to your configurations for these to work; simply ensure your server and clients are updated, install the Compliance Kit update, and log in!
- We have improved overall vault startup performance by reducing the application size, improving caches, and reducing server calls. We're committed to continue to improve the time it takes to start vault applications, so expect improvements in the next few releases!
- Performance improvements for Log Exporter (when exporting to Azure), and User Synchronization modules.
- Placeholders specified in Object Creator now use vault-specific date and time formats if they are defined in Advanced Vault Settings, not just the server formats.
- We enabled an edge-case where users needed to use Object Creator buttons while changing the class of the object during creation.
As we move through the next few quarters, we will continue enabling more Compliance Kit modules in the new M-Files Desktop and M-Files Web clients.
Compatibility
You can install the Compliance Kit on M-Files Server 23.8 or newer, but the latest M-Files 24.10 release is needed for compatibility with the new clients (M-Files 24.10 on the server for M-Files Web compatibility, and additionally, M-Files 24.10 on the client for compatibility with the new M-Files Desktop).
