Error with Overwriting Word Document

Hi There,

I'm not sure how to explain this one.

A member of staff had 2 different word documents checked out,  a report &  some notes. While checked out he has overwritten the report with the notes, losing all the information and work he had done within the report.

I have checked the history within M-Files and the only report that is as it should be is a blank copy, all work previously done before the over write has gone.

Does anyone know of a way to get the report back before it was overwritten?

Many thanks

  • M-Files only keeps a copy of the versions that have been checked-in to the server. If these changes to the report were made during the same editing session, there's no way to recover the changes in M-Files unfortunately. I'm not sure if Word itself has some auto-save functionality that would maintain multiple versions, I suggest checking Microsoft documentation and support resources for this.

To prevent these situations in the future, you could train your users to use to "Check In Changes" option in the Word ribbon to save a version to the server. User guide: Functions in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Thank you Joonas,

I thought this would be the advise given.

Thank you for your answer Slight smile

    Many thanks
