Is there a way in the M-Files client to search for views by View ID or View description?
I don't think this is possible, views themselves are not indexed for searching. May I ask what's the scenario or pain point here? Why would you need to search for them?
Our agency recently migrated to M-Files from another DMS system. In our old DMS system, everything was based on document collections.
Our M-Files team rebuilt those collections using M-Files views.
In the old system, we could search for the collection IDs or collection names. Now, with M-Files, that no longer seems possible.
So, finding particular views is a pain.
M-Files also has a document collection concept and you can search for these collections. It's difficult to say anything about the design decisions taken in your vault without knowing more of the background.
If your team is often using the same views, they can pin these for easy access from the Pinned tab. That could be one way to make frequently accessed views easier to find.
I also do not understand why they went for views instead of M-Files collections.
Thanks anyway. I guess I can use the COM API to build a little tool to search for views by name or ID.
can you give us a visual example of the data and how do you want to search ? Do you want to search something like, "subfolders" by name and/or ID ?
This is the entry page of our M-Files client:
Each of those views has other views inside. It's basically a view hierarchy.
Searching by view name or view ID would be helpful for navigating our M-Files setup.
I envision something similar to how document collections can be in found in M-Files by simply entering the name in the search bar.
