Save annotation as pdf

Hello there :)

I have the next situation:
I have an annotated document in MFiles. I was wondering if there is any way (API function or sth) to download the annotated document? I found a way to download the xfdf and the empty document (without the annotations in it), but then I need to use third party libraries for merging this two files.
Also as I can see, this downloading can't be done through the web service, so I was wondering if there is a way to be downloaded using the mfiles API? In the client app, there is an option for saving the annotations as PDF, so I guess there must be a way to save as annotated pdf through the api. But, what's that way? :)
  • Hi Alek

As far as I know, in M-Files we download the PDF and the xfdf file from the server and merge them using another software library tool, so there is not an API method to get the annotated document out of the vault.

Thank you very much for your answer Mika. I was hoping there was an API method :(

Can you suggest me a software tool for merging a pdf and a xfdf? I tried with couple, but they are importing the "fileds", not the "annots"...

  • I do not have personal experience with any of those libraries, but this is maybe something to take a look at: www.tracker-software.com/.../pdf-xchange-editor-sdk

Hello, we are brand new to M-Files so have lots of questions about what it can and cannot do.

Is it possible to automatically include a stamp as part of the workflow if the end of a workflow has been reached? I'd like to see a stamp "passed for payment" on the actual invoice, so it's instantly visible that the invoice has been through the authorisation workflow.

Also, is it possible to automatically convert a document with its annotations into a PDF? I know you can do this manually but I would prefer that the invoice with the passed for payment stamp is turned into a new PDF that contains the annotations (rather than having to do this manually).

    Thanks heaps.

I think you wil need QMS module to stamp and recreate pdf's.

You can use the PDF Processor add-on to achieve this. Or if you just need to insert some metadata in the document, take a look at the Insert Field feature in M-Files Add-in for Word and Excel.

Unfortunately, there is not a method for this currently.

HI sorry for my late response.
I am new to the M-Files community and hadn't figured out yet how to ensure I receive notifications if someone responds to my question, so thought nobody had and I only checked the message now.

I did a search for the PDF add-on, can't find anything useful. How can I find out more about this?

    Cheers, Helga
