Microsoft Teams - Hyperlink

Former Member

Hi,

Hope you're well.

MS Teams is currently unable to open the M-Files client when selecting the "Desktop" option on a copied Hyperlink. When selecting "Get Hyperlink" on a document and then Copy link to clipboard, the pasted link in Teams it does nothing when clicked. The only option that does work, is "Web". Selecting "Desktop" is working everywhere else, Outlook for example. Just doesn't in Teams.

Can you please confirm whether this is a known issue?

Thank you

  • Yes, this is a known issue due to the restrictions Teams (and some other applications) has for links that use other protocols than http(s). In the M-Files links case the protocol is m-files:// so these links don't work in Teams directly.

One workaround is to use a "URL opener" service that we are hosting: append the M-Files URL to the following: [tt]openurl.m-files.com/.../OpenMFilesUrl.html[/tt] and it should work also in Teams since the protocol is https. Technically the service is just a small web page which then opens the M-Files link locally from the browser.

In the long term we have plans to start using https links all around so this issue should go away at some point.
