Hide a document type

If with "document type" you mean class, you can remove the "Attach objects to this class" permission in the class properties. With the settings in the example below users can see the class name and search by it but not select this class for a document.

Thanks Joonas,  Document Type is an object not a class.  I can see how to do it for classes or even value lists but not for a Object Type.  I know how to custom permissions and hide it according to the user.  but not hide from the objects list and still keeps it searchable.  Maybe you cant do it for objects.

I don't think that's possible for objects unfortunately. Users can either see the object or not and if they can see it, they can select it in value list properties. Some custom solution might be possible with event handlers, e.g. don't let the user save the changes if that object is selected (and it wasn't already selected before).

Anthony, your terminology is a bit confusing here. You talk about Document Type and Object Type as if they are the same. If you really are talking about another Object Type than Documents, then that other Object Type probably only has one Class, and then you could use Joonas' suggestion on that Class.

If on the other hand you have a special property for Document Type, then that property most likely is a lookup type selecting from a value list. In that case you should be able set permissions based on the value list items.

If neither of these descriptions fit your structure, then perhaps you could explain exactly what your "Document Type" is?

Hi bright-ideas,  sorry i thought that Document Type was a standard object in M-Files so everyone uses it.  It is fine, the user can set an alert if it is used and change it when he gets notified.
