We introduced the new solution in early July to unlock native Microsoft 365 capabilities for M-Files AI-curated content, including agentic experiences delivered by Microsoft 365 Copilot and M-Files Aino. This solution provides unified security and compliance: M-Files content stays within the Microsoft 365 security boundary while leveraging organization-wide compliance and governance policies defined by Microsoft Purview.
With this new capability, documents are stored directly in your Microsoft 365 environment, giving you:
- Seamless collaboration – edit simultaneously in Microsoft 365 with colleagues.
- Better AI outcomes – ensure Copilot and M-Files Aino generate results grounded in accurate, trusted content.
- Stronger compliance – apply Microsoft Purview’s governance and security features to your M-Files content.
The first native capability is available now: Activate desktop co-authoring in your Microsoft 365 environment
Desktop co-authoring in M-Files is the first of the native capabilities. With desktop co-authoring, you can edit documents simultaneously in Microsoft 365 while M-Files organizes information, guides business processes, and automates security and compliance. Get a best-in-class authoring experience, increasing your satisfaction, engagement, and adoption.
Desktop co-authoring in M-Files is included in the M-Files Business platform subscription using M-Files Cloud at no extra cost. All you need to do is activate it in your environment.
Steps to activate desktop co-authoring:

Admin Consent:
Give M-Files application the Microsoft 365 admin consent – directly from M-Files Manage user interface.

Enable Co-Authoring:
Toggle desktop co-authoring on from M-Files Admin vault properties today. Additional capabilities coming soon!

The new M-Files desktop and web users can now double-click Office documents and directly co-author in Excel, PowerPoint and Word desktop applications.
