Upgrading to the new Desktop experience
The new M-Files Desktop is the primary focus for all future features and is the recommended client moving forward. Transitioning requires the use of the gRPC protocol. While gRPC is enabled by default in our cloud offering, on-premises customers need to take certain steps to enable it. Please read How to transition to the new M-Files Desktop to help assess your environment and to find easiest path to transition.
New Features and Enhancement highlights:
- New M-Files Desktop and Web: Workspaces. Introducing a completely new way to navigate and browse relationships! Objects are turned into navigation points to their workspaces. Following the object type configuration for related object browsing, workspaces show tabs for the related objects accordingly. Workspaces are available for objects that have at least one related type configured. Workspaces will be iteratively enhanced, and this first iteration has the following capabilities
- Ways of accessing the workspaces (double-click, context menu, etc.)
- Built-in tabs based on the object type configuration in MFAdmin ("The types of objects that users can browse for objects of this type")
- The workspace object (for which the relationships are shown) accessible within the workspace

- New M-Files Desktop and Web: Refreshed within-view Search: Contextual, in-place search embedded within workspaces and traditional views (see above screenshot).
- New M-Files Desktop: Global Search Object Type Filtering. It's now possible to filter the global search results by object type.
Feature parity additions. Enabling customers to make the switch to new M-Files Desktop:
- Advanced Search Phase 3: The third increment contains improved "any property" selection, and additional conditions (e.g. ID search etc.)
